INTRODUCTION:
As logisticians, it is your job to provide the best information available to your customers.
When it comes to information, there is no one system that provides everything. You
need to know which system works best for the job and what system to use as a backup.
Senior and Junior Supply and Maintenance Personnel throughout DoD, need to know
how to do technical research, solve backorders and get good status on requisitions.
Calling a Help Desk isn’t always the most efficient way to get information and solve
problems. If you need to call, make sure you are armed with information to help solve
the problem. The techniques provided in this book are based on experience and how it
applies to your job. Our focus is working with your supply system’s Material Outstanding
file or any other system reports you may use to track requisitions. Through the Logistics
Toolbox web portal sites, we provide a summary of systems, Quick Refs, and training
videos that can help you. There are a host of websites, capabilities, and processes
that can make your job easier and improve the readiness of your commands. This book
is designed for you!
Today, many logistics systems within the Department of Defense (DoD) have unique
names and, unless you know where to find the information, it may be difficult to
determine the type of data those systems provide until you understand some basics.
Having a general understanding of the supply system and the way your Service
performs logistics, is always helpful. Logistics Toolbox is the best place to find the
right tools and sites. Additionally, it is helpful to understand the different sources of data
in order to get the most up-to-date information.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this book, you will be better prepared to get current technical
information, find parts to solve problems, and get the most up-to-date status. You will
also learn some great techniques for saving time and money. If you are under the
impression that the Navy automated systems will find parts for your backorders and
automatically solve them, or all those special expediting units will solve your problems,
that isn’t always the case. It all starts with DoD Logistic personnel working with
Maintainers!
