DA 1687 — Notice of Delegation of Authority - Receipt for Supplies

DA Form 1687, Notice of Delegation of Authority - Receipt for Supplies, is the record a unit keeps on file with its supporting supply activity to establish exactly who, besides the commander or primary hand receipt holder, is authorized to request, receive, and sign for supplies and equipment on the unit's behalf. Its use is prescribed by Army Regulation 710-4, Inventory Management: Property Accountability. A supply activity checks a signature against the DA 1687 on file before honoring a request or releasing property to anyone other than the appointed accountable individual, which is what lets a unit verify that materiel is being issued to the correct organization and that the person signing for it actually has delegated authority to do so.

The commander or accountable officer completes the form to name each delegate, and updates it whenever personnel with signature authority change — a frequent administrative task given normal unit turnover. Supply support activities, from a battalion S-4 shop to a depot issuing bulk materiel, treat an out-of-date or missing DA 1687 as grounds to reject a transaction, since it is the control document that keeps property accountability tied to an authorized individual rather than to anyone who happens to show up with a request. The current edition, dated December 2023, replaced an edition dated November 2015.
