DA 2062 — Hand Receipt/Shortage Listing

DA Form 2062, Hand Receipt/Shortage Listing, is the document the Army uses to place government property in the custody of, and assign responsibility to, an individual or a sub-hand-receipt holder. A property book officer or primary hand receipt holder issues one to record exactly what property a soldier or unit has on hand; the accompanying shortage annex documents any component or item still due in against that same line of accountability. Its use is prescribed by Army Regulation 710-4, Inventory Management: Property Accountability, effective 26 January 2024, which consolidated organizational-level supply and property-book procedures previously spread across Army Regulation 710-2 and Department of the Army Pamphlet 710-2-1.

Both the issuing official and the person receiving the property sign the form, and a new one is executed whenever custody changes hands, an inventory reveals a shortage, or a periodic sensitive-item or command-directed inventory requires re-verification. Because it is the document auditors and commanders check first to determine who is accountable for a specific piece of equipment, an accurate, current DA 2062 is treated as a command supply discipline fundamental at every echelon from squad to installation. The current edition, dated December 2023, replaced an edition that had stood since January 1982.
