Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System DOEHRS

The Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System – Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) is the Department of Defense's official system of record for documenting workplace and environmental health exposures — the electronic case file industrial hygienists use to assess, manage, and report hazards for military members and DoD civilian employees worldwide. It is a Defense Health Agency (DHA) system, hosted on DISA infrastructure at doehrs-ih.csd.disa.mil, and requires CAC authentication with a submitted System Authorization Access Request (SAAR).

What it is

DOEHRS-IH maintains longitudinal occupational and environmental exposure records for service members and DoD civilian employees, covering both garrison and deployed settings. The system is organized into multiple business areas: Industrial Hygiene (IH), Environmental Health (EH), Food Protection (FP), Radiation (Rad), Incident Reporting (IR), Registries (Reg), and a Document Library (DL) for historical records. It is used to track biological, chemical, physical, and ergonomic workplace hazards and is mandated for use under DoD policy.

Who operates it

DOEHRS-IH is a Defense Health Agency system. Day-to-day global system administration is provided by the Ergonomics and Industrial Hygiene Management (EIHM) Division, part of the Occupational Health Sciences Directorate at the Defense Centers for Public Health – Aberdeen (DCPH-A, the former Army Public Health Center). The application itself is hosted on Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) infrastructure.

Access

DOEHRS-IH is not a public system. Access requires a Common Access Card (CAC) and an approved System Authorization Access Request (SAAR/DD Form 2875); DISA's account-request workflow requires a current Cyber Awareness Challenge certificate and a government email address matching the CAC certificate. Requests are submitted through the DOEHRS-IH portal itself rather than a separate external form. The directory's prior "public" classification for this tool is incorrect and has been corrected here.

How logisticians use it

Industrial hygienists, occupational health personnel, and safety officers use DOEHRS-IH to log exposure assessments, hazard surveys, and monitoring results for specific jobs, work sites, and deployed locations, producing the DoD's official record of who was exposed to what, where, and when. Logistics and supply personnel intersect with the system indirectly: workplace hazard data recorded in DOEHRS-IH (chemical exposures, hazardous operations) connects to hazardous-material handling and safety-data-sheet management maintained in systems like HMIRS, and exposure documentation increasingly feeds downstream reporting used for service-member health and disability-claim purposes.
