DoD White Pages

DoD White Pages, also called DoD 411, is the Department of Defense's enterprise personnel directory, operated by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) on its Global Directory Service (GDS) platform at dod411.gds.disa.mil. It lets authorized DoD users search for personnel by name, rank, duty location, organization, and other attributes. Access requires a Common Access Card (CAC) or an approved External Certification Authority (ECA) certificate — it is not a public lookup tool.

What it is

DoD White Pages provides a single enterprise-wide listing of Defense Department personnel, combining PKI directory data, combatant command data, and other designated DoD data sources into one searchable index. The service uses a persona-based search model, letting users query attributes specific to a person's role — military, civilian, or contractor — in addition to traditional name and email lookups, to help locate a specific individual's contact and organizational information.

Who operates it

DISA operates DoD White Pages as part of its Global Directory Service. Directory data has historically drawn on the Defense Manpower Data Center's Person Data Repository (associated with the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, DEERS) alongside DISA's own PKI and directory data.

Access

The directory is restricted to holders of a valid DoD CAC or an approved ECA certificate, reachable over the public internet or DoD's NIPRNet by PKI-enabled users. There is no public or unauthenticated access path. General DISA user support is available through DISA's Global Service Desk (1-844-347-2457; DSN 850-0032), which handles enterprise service and application issues DoD-wide; no directory-specific help-desk contact could be confirmed on a current official page.

How logisticians use it

Logisticians with CAC access use DoD White Pages to locate points of contact across commands, activities, and services — for example, finding a counterpart's duty phone, email, or organization when coordinating a supply action, transportation request, or cross-command program issue, without needing to already know which base or unit that person sits in.

History & lineage

DISA introduced the enterprise white pages/DoD 411 service to replace the department's earlier Joint Enterprise Directory Services (JEDS), which was shut down in late 2013.
