Haystack Gold is a commercial defense-parts and logistics-data research platform, now sold by Accuris (the former IHS Markit engineering-solutions business), used to look up National Stock Number (NSN), NIIN, CAGE code, and part-cross-reference data across military and commercial supply chains. It is a paid subscription product, not a U.S. Government system — logisticians use it as a faster commercial front end to the same underlying federal cataloging data found in FLIS.

What it is

Haystack Gold aggregates parts and logistics data — historical and current pricing, technical characteristics, supplier/CAGE information, and government procurement history — across, per the vendor, 350+ million part references drawn from 70+ datasets. Users can search by NSN, NIIN, Federal Supply Class (FSC), CAGE code, description, or technical characteristics, and can monitor specific FSCs, NIINs, or CAGE codes for new activity. The vendor states current NSN records are refreshed weekly from the Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS), the same DoD cataloging system behind WebFLIS/FedLog.

Who operates it

Haystack Gold is owned and sold by Accuris (branded Accuris Technologies). The product has passed through several corporate owners: it originated at IHS, which merged with Markit in 2016 to form IHS Markit; IHS Markit was acquired by S&P Global in 2022; S&P Global then sold its Engineering Solutions division (including Haystack Gold) to the private equity firm KKR & Co. in 2023, and that business was renamed Accuris. It is not a DoD or federal program.

Access

Haystack Gold is a paid commercial subscription — there is no public or CAC-gated federal access path. Prospective customers log in to the hosted application (branded "Accuris" at login) or request a demo/quote through Accuris sales. Pricing is customized per customer rather than published; access requires contacting Accuris directly.

How logisticians use it

Government and contractor logisticians use commercial tools like Haystack Gold to speed up parts research and sourcing — finding qualified suppliers, comparing procurement history and pricing across services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, DLA), and identifying alternate/obsolete-part sourcing options — without needing separate accounts on each service's own systems. For authoritative, no-cost federal NSN/cataloging data, the government-of-record sources are WebFLIS/FedLog (DLA) and FedMall for procurement; Haystack Gold is a commercial convenience layer on top of that same underlying FLIS data, not a replacement source of authority.
