The ILS Government Research Tool (GRT) is a commercial parts- and data-research module within ILSmart, the online marketplace platform operated by Inventory Locator Service, LLC (ILS). It consolidates federal item-identification and procurement data — including FLIS, CAGE, MCRL, and related government and industry data sources — into a single searchable interface for aviation, marine, and defense supply professionals. It is a paid vendor product, not a U.S. Government system.

What it is

GRT lets subscribers search by commercial part number, National Stock Number (NSN), NIIN, Federal Supply Class (FSC), item name, CAGE code, company name, end item code, or contract number. According to ILS's own product description (distributed via reseller/marketplace listings), the underlying database draws on FLIS, MCRL, ML-C, CAGE Code records, Technical Characteristics data, Procurement History, MRIL, NHA, Navy CRF, AMDF, I&S, and MOE sources, along with FAA records for PMA part searches.

Who operates it

Inventory Locator Service, LLC (ILS), a Memphis, Tennessee-based commercial company founded in 1979, operates GRT as part of its ILSmart platform. ILS is a private vendor, not a federal agency or program office.

Access

GRT is a subscription/commercial product, not a public government tool. The link in the LogTool directory record was a tinyurl shortener that redirects to an ILS-hosted help page for GRT's government code tables, confirming the product is live but not itself a public landing/access page.

How logisticians use it

Some logistics and parts-sourcing professionals use ILSmart/GRT as a commercial supplement to authoritative federal sources — for example, to cross-reference NSNs against commercial part numbers, research procurement history, or evaluate competitive suppliers. It is not a substitute for the government's own systems of record.

Related systems

For authoritative, no-cost federal NSN and item data, logisticians should use DLA's WebFLIS/FLIS and PUB LOG rather than a commercial reseller tool.
