Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) is the Department of Defense's authoritative online joint-training platform, managed by the Joint Staff Directorate for Joint Force Development (J7). It delivers career-long joint training and education — computer-based courses, virtual classrooms, and scenario-based staff exercises — to individuals, staffs, Combatant Commands, Combat Support Agencies, and the Services. Logisticians use it primarily to complete required pre-deployment, joint-qualification, and professional-military-education coursework.

What it is

JKO is a government-owned learning management system (LMS) hosting a large catalog of joint, functional, and Combatant Command-directed training — including theater/area-of-responsibility prerequisites, pre-deployment requirements, and career-long joint professional military education. Beyond self-paced computer-based training, JKO's offerings include a synchronous Virtual Classroom (VCLASS) and distributed, scenario-based small-group staff exercises, and it hosts the Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education (EJPME) program.

Who operates it

JKO is operated by the Joint Knowledge Online Division under the Joint Staff's Directorate for Joint Force Development (J7), which is responsible for standardized joint training and education across DoD. The division is based at the Joint Staff J7 Suffolk Complex in Suffolk, Virginia.

Access

JKO requires an account — the directory's stored "public" access value understates the actual requirement. Users log in at jkodirect.jten.mil (the LMS front door) using a CAC/DoD PKI certificate, or with a JKO username and password for those without a CAC (accounts for this path typically require a .mil or .gov email address to register). Account creation and CAC-troubleshooting guidance is published from the jko.jten.mil support pages. There is no anonymous/public browsing of course content.

How logisticians use it

JKO is a training resource, not an operational logistics system. Federal and military logisticians use it to satisfy mandatory joint training tied to deployments, joint-billet assignments, and Combatant Command in-theater requirements, and to complete broader joint professional military education milestones tracked for career development.

Related systems

JKO sits alongside the Services' own learning-management platforms (for example, Navy e-Learning and Army training/education systems) as part of the wider DoD distributed-learning ecosystem, but is distinct in being the designated DoD-wide authority for joint (rather than service-specific) training content.
