MAX Federal Community

MAX Federal Community (MAX.gov) is a government-wide suite of collaboration, information-sharing, data-collection, publishing, business-intelligence, and authentication tools operated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). It is not a public content site — it is an authenticated workspace used by federal employees and contractors to collaborate across agencies and to submit reporting to OMB.

What it is

MAX.gov (accessed via the MAX portal at portal.max.gov) bundles several component tools under one authentication layer, including MAX Community (shared workspaces and document/knowledge management), MAX Collect, MAX Survey, MAX A-11, and MAX Analytics. Agencies use these components for cross-agency collaboration, data collection, and business-intelligence reporting, including submissions tied to OMB Circular A-11 budget processes.

Who operates it

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) operates MAX.gov. The platform remains active as of mid-2026, with published support hours and a scheduled weekly maintenance window (Sundays, 2:00 AM–8:00 AM ET).

Access

MAX.gov requires an authenticated account — it is not open to the general public, despite how some directory listings may categorize it. Login supports PIV/CAC card authentication or a MAX.gov user ID and password, as well as federated login through partner agencies (including NASA, HHS, USAID, Education, VA, GSA, Energy, and ODNI, among others).

Self-registration is available to federal government employees and contractors who hold a federal government email address (a ".gov", ".mil", or ".fed.us" address). Users without a qualifying government email address — including some contractors and non-federal personnel performing federal activities — must contact their agency administrator or the MAX help desk to arrange access rather than self-registering.

How logisticians use it

Federal and DoD logistics personnel who touch budget, performance, or cross-agency reporting workflows may encounter MAX.gov as the platform for submitting data calls, collaborating on shared documents with other agencies, or completing OMB-directed reporting (for example, budget-related submissions under Circular A-11). It functions as back-office collaboration infrastructure rather than a public-facing logistics tool, so most site visitors will only need it if their agency or program office specifically directs them to an OMB data call or collaboration space hosted there.
