NAVSUP HMCM HAZMAT Tool

The NAVSUP HMCM (Hazardous Material Control and Management) tool is a NAVSUP-operated application that lets Navy shore commands view and obtain authorized hazardous material (HAZMAT), giving HAZMAT and supply personnel visibility and tracking against a work center's Authorized Use List (AUL), a way to submit material requests, and support for inventory-accuracy processes. It sits within NAVSUP's broader Hazardous Material Management mission and the Navy's CHRIMP program for shore HAZMAT control.

What it is

Navy shore commands control HAZMAT through the Consolidated Hazardous Material Reutilization and Inventory Management Program (CHRIMP), which requires every item of HAZMAT used at a shore facility to be reviewed by the local environmental/safety office and added to a work center's Authorized Use List (AUL) before it can be procured or issued. NAVSUP's Hazardous Material Management tool supports that process — it can surface Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), AULs, and other resources so work centers can manage what HAZMAT they hold, what they're authorized to use, and what they still need to request.

Who operates it

NAVSUP (Naval Supply Systems Command) operates the tool under its Hazardous Material Management mission area, which holds Navy-wide technical and management authority for HAZMAT control and pollution-prevention support both ashore and afloat.

Access

The directory's stored link (a go.usa.gov short URL) does not resolve — GSA officially sunset the go.usa.gov shortener on September 18, 2022, so links of this form are no longer reliable regardless of the destination tool's status. NAVSUP's public Hazardous Material Management pages describe access to its HAZMAT tools and data applications as gated behind the MyNAVSUP portal, which requires a requested account (MyNAVSUP access can be requested from a link on NAVSUP's public site). This is a Navy internal system, not an open public application — access should be treated as account-required rather than public.

How logisticians use it

HAZMAT supervisors, HAZMAT/HAZMIN coordinators, and supply personnel at Navy shore work centers use the tool to check whether a given material is on their command's AUL, request authorized HAZMAT, pull SDSs for material already on hand, and reconcile on-hand inventory against what's authorized — supporting the CHRIMP goal of using only reviewed, authorized, least-hazardous material and keeping accountable records of what's stored where.

Related systems

The tool operates alongside DLA's Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (HMIRS), the DoD-wide repository of Safety Data Sheets, and complements CHRIMP's afloat counterpart, the Hazardous Inventory Control System (HICS), used aboard surface ships. NAVSUP's Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system also supports CHRIMP HAZMAT operations ashore.
