NAVSUP Naval Logisitics Library (NLL)

The Naval Logistics Library (NLL) is the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) system that serves as the central link in the Navy publications supply chain. It gives CAC-holders search and viewing access to Navy instructions, directives, technical manuals, and other publications, and lets users who complete a SAAR-based registration order hard copies and use additional supply-support features.

What it is

The NLL is the Navy's catalog and knowledge-management system for publications and directives. Per NAVSUP's own reporting, it has held on the order of 176,000–179,000 active publications (a 2020 Navy.mil release cited 176,926 active publications, distinct from an image caption in the same release referencing 179,926) — including instructions, directives, technical manuals, placards, and other digital documents used for ship and installation maintenance. A 2020 platform update gave the system a redesigned front end with improved document search, Defense Logistics Management Standard-compliant transactions, integration with Navy Enterprise Resource Planning for hard-copy ordering, and an interface to Defense Logistics Agency print-on-demand services.

Who operates it

The NLL is a NAVSUP system maintained by the NAVSUP Business Systems Center (NAVSUP BSC), one of eleven commands under Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command.

Access

Access to the NLL is gated, not open to the public. Basic "restricted access" search of NAVSUP publications and instructions requires a Common Access Card (CAC)/DoD PKI certificate; Navy publications are handled as Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Users who want to order publications or use additional features must register an NLL account, which requires submitting a SAAR (System Authorization Access Request) form and then logging in with a registered CAC/PKI certificate. NAVSUP moved the system to a new address, my.navsup.navy.mil/apps/ops$nll.home, retiring the previous nll.navsup.navy.mil URL on October 1, 2024. The new address requires a DoD client certificate to load, consistent with CAC-gated access.

How logisticians use it

Supply and maintenance personnel use the NLL to look up and order Navy publications, instructions, directives, and technical manuals needed to prepare and maintain Navy ships and aircraft, and to work with the system's knowledge-management and supply-support features — making it the primary reference point in the Navy publications supply chain.
