Navy Awards Website

The Navy Awards Website (awards.navy.mil) is the legacy home of the Navy Department Awards Web Service (NDAWS), the Navy's electronic system for processing and searching military awards and decorations. Navy Personnel Command (NPC) migrated the active NDAWS application to BUPERS Online (BOL) in May 2020, so awards.navy.mil now serves in a read-only capacity while current award processing and CAC-authenticated lookups happen through BOL.

What it is

NDAWS is the Navy's authoritative electronic awards system: it supports initiation, routing, endorsement, and approval of personal military decorations (PMDs) and unit awards, and it holds historical data on personal decorations, unit awards, and campaign/expeditionary medals. On May 18, 2020, Navy Personnel Command launched a modernized NDAWS application on BUPERS Online (BOL), which automated legacy paper-driven routing and tied approved awards directly into a Sailor's official military personnel file (OMPF) and performance summary record. The original awards.navy.mil site was placed in a "Read Only" state at that time rather than retired outright.

Who operates it

Navy Personnel Command (NPC) operates NDAWS. PERS-312, the awards branch within NPC's career/records management organization, maintains the system together with DNS-13, and the platform sits under the broader MyNavy HR/MyNavy Career Center (MNCC) support structure.

Access

The legacy awards.navy.mil site is publicly reachable but is documented as read-only following the 2020 migration; it is not the current system of record. The active NDAWS application lives on BUPERS Online (BOL) at bol.navy.mil and requires a Common Access Card (CAC) to log in — all active-duty and reserve Sailors, and civilian/contractor personnel who already hold BOL access, can reach NDAWS through BOL. Civilians or contractors who need NDAWS access but lack a BOL account must route an approved System Authorization Access Request-Navy (SAAR-N) through their chain of command; NPC's guidance directs the completed SAAR-N to the MyNavy Career Center at askmncc.fct@navy.mil to have the BOL account created.

How logisticians use it

This is a personnel/administrative system rather than a materiel or transportation logistics tool. Administrative offices responsible for preparing and submitting Sailors' award recommendations use NDAWS (via BOL) to initiate and route personal decorations and unit award packages, and Sailors, veterans, and records staff use it (or the read-only legacy site) to look up personal or unit award history. Logistics commands' administrative staff are typical users when documenting awards for assigned personnel.
