Navy Data Environment NDE

The Navy Data Environment (NDE, nde.navy.mil) is a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) web environment that serves as the common access point and management tool for several Navy maintenance, modernization, and logistics information systems, including CDMD-OA (the Configuration Data Managers Database). It is restricted to authorized users with DoD PKI credentials and an NDE account — not a public-data site.

What it is

NDE is a centralized database and web-based environment used to manage Navy modernization, maintenance, logistics, and workload/performance data. It functions as an umbrella access point for multiple underlying maintenance information systems — including OMMS-NG (Organizational Maintenance Management System-Next Generation), Ship's 3-M, RMAIS, ICMP, CDMD-OA, and FMPMIS — giving Configuration Data Managers and maintenance/logistics personnel a single environment to reach these tools. It is designated for unclassified use only.

Who operates it

NDE is a NAVSEA system. Program-level configuration management policy for the data it hosts (e.g., CDMD-OA) sits with NAVSEA's configuration management organization; NAVSEA's Naval Sea Logistics Center (NSLC), including NSLC Keyport, supports Navy configuration management and modernization functions that rely on NDE-hosted data.

Access

NDE requires a DoD PKI certificate (CAC or External Certificate Authority credential) and a Navy Data Environment account; it is not accessible to the general public. No publicly documented NDE-specific account-request page or help-desk contact was found — access is arranged through the requesting user's command/program office. The directory's stored access type of "public" does not reflect this and should be corrected.

How logisticians use it

Configuration data managers, maintenance personnel, and supply/logistics staff use NDE as their entry point to update and retrieve Navy equipment configuration, maintenance history, and modernization planning data — information that in turn drives shipboard allowancing (what spares a ship carries) and modernization/availability scheduling for surface ships, carriers, and submarines.
