Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) was the U.S. Navy's web-based learning and knowledge-management portal, launched in 2003 to give Sailors a single online hub for training, professional-development resources, and personnel information. The Navy disestablished NKO on 14 April 2017 after a 14-year run, and its training content and functions were migrated to MyNavy Portal. This entry is retained as a retirement notice pointing to the current successor system.

What it was

NKO provided Sailors with access to educational and leadership resources, training tools, and career-development information. By the mid-2010s the site had become a frequent target of user complaints — firewall and navigation problems, poor connectivity, broken links, and an outdated interface — which contributed to the Navy's decision to retire it in favor of a modernized replacement.

Where it went

NKO's content and functions moved to MyNavy Portal (MNP), announced to Sailors via NAVADMIN 087/17 and a Navy.mil press release in early April 2017. The URL announced at the time, my.navy.mil, no longer resolves. MyNavy Portal is reached today at mn3p.navy.mil; a second address, mnp.navy.mil, redirects directly into the CAC/Okta login flow used for authentication. MyNavy Portal consolidates access to a range of Navy personnel systems — including NSIPS, BUPERS Online, and myPay — alongside the training and career-management tools that formerly lived on NKO.

Access

MyNavy Portal requires Common Access Card (CAC) authentication or an enrolled MyNavy HR account (with device-based Okta FastPass as a CAC-free alternative). The directory's stored access designation of "public" is incorrect for both the retired NKO and its CAC-gated successor. There is no separate account-request process beyond standard CAC/DoD credentialing; support for login and account issues is handled through the Naval Enterprise Service Desk and the MyNavy Career Center.

How logisticians use it (via the successor)

Navy personnel — including logistics ratings and administrative staff — use MyNavy Portal for functions such as leave requests, career development actions, permanent change of station (PCS) coordination, advancement information, and training-record management. These are personnel/HR readiness functions rather than supply-chain logistics tools, but they remain part of the administrative workload Navy logisticians and their commands manage.

History & lineage

NKO originated in 2003 as one of the Navy's first large-scale enterprise web portals for Sailor education and knowledge management. It was formally disestablished on 14 April 2017, with the Chief of Naval Personnel's organization migrating its functions to MyNavy Portal as part of a broader modernization of Navy HR IT systems.
