Navy Packaging Codes P700-CMP

Navy Packaging Codes (P700-CMP) is a free web-based lookup that decodes the packaging and packing codes used on Navy supply and shipping documents. Enter one or more codes and the tool returns a plain-language description of the preservation method, cleaning/drying process, wrapping and cushioning materials, container type, hazardous-material handling, marking, and shelf-life requirements each code represents. It is hosted by Leidos at its Camp Hill Logistics facility under the Navy's Technical Assistance for Repairables Processing (TARP) program, and it decodes codes drawn from NAVSUP PUB 700 — Common Naval Packaging (P700-CNP) and DoD standard MIL-STD-2073-1.

What it is

The lookup is a decoder, not a code table publisher: a logistician who sees a string of packaging codes on a DD Form 1348-1A or in a supply record can paste those codes into the tool's search boxes (method of preservation, cleaning and drying, preservative material, wrapping material, cushioning material and thickness, unit/intermediate container, packing code, special material content, hazardous material, special marking, unit container level, optional procedures, shelf life, and type of storage) and get back a one-page plain-English explanation of what each code means. The codes themselves originate in MIL-STD-2073-1E (the DoD Standard Practice for Military Packaging) and in NAVSUP PUB 700, the Navy/Marine Corps publication that mandates common packaging requirements — P700-CNP — for Navy- and USMC-managed materiel.

Who operates it

The site (camphill.leidos.com) is operated by Leidos under its Camp Hill, Pennsylvania logistics operation, which performs the Navy's TARP contract. TARP field representatives train and assist Navy fleet and shore activities on reverse-supply-chain packaging and on the electronic Retrograde Management System (eRMS) used to move repairable assets. The underlying packaging program and standard (P700-CNP) are Navy/NAVSUP-owned; a separate, CAC-gated mirror of the same P700 data is hosted directly by the Navy at tarp.navsup.navy.mil.

Access

The Camp Hill/Leidos lookup at the primary URL loads as a public search form with no login prompt — no CAC or account is required to look up what a code means. (A separate NAVSUP-hosted copy of the same P700 data, at tarp.navsup.navy.mil, does require a CAC/DoD certificate; that is a different, government-hosted mirror, not this tool.) For help using the lookup or questions about a specific code, Leidos publishes a TARP toll-free helpline, a commercial number, and a help-desk mailbox on the tool's own landing page.

How logisticians use it

Packaging specialists, supply clerks, and receiving/shipping personnel use the lookup to translate the packaging and packing codes stamped on Navy materiel or listed in supply documentation into the specific preservation, wrapping, container, marking, and shelf-life actions required before an item is stored or shipped — without needing to pull and interpret the full MIL-STD-2073-1 standard by hand for routine codes.
