Pin Point

Pin Point is a parts-data research and management platform that gives engineers, item managers, and catalogers a single searchable view of technical, management, and reference data for National Stock Numbers (NSNs) and commercial parts. It is built and operated by XSB, Inc., which was acquired by supply-chain risk intelligence firm Exiger in 2024; DoD users log in with a CAC or a registered username/password at no cost to the government.

What it is

Pin Point aggregates part and item data from dozens of government and commercial sources into what XSB calls a "Coherent View" database, covering roughly 90–100 million parts and hundreds of millions of part attributes. Per DLA program materials, its source data includes the Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS), DLA's Enterprise Business System (EBS), and legacy data carried over from DLA's retired Standard Automated Materiel Management System (SAMMS), alongside commercial manufacturer and distributor data. The tool is used for parts selection, cross-reference/substitute research, diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages (DMSMS) tracking, and regulatory-compliance checks (e.g., REACH, RoHS).

Who operates it

Pin Point is a commercial product of XSB, Inc., headquartered in Setauket, New York. XSB was acquired by Exiger in 2024, which now markets Pin Point as part of its supply-chain and third-party risk platform alongside its own data and AI capabilities. It is not a government-run system, though DLA and other DoD organizations have long promoted its use to the item-management and engineering community.

Access

Pin Point requires a login — either a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) or a registered username and password — at pinpoint.xsb.com. New users request an account through the "Not Registered?" link on the login page; DLA materials describe the tool as CAC-enabled and free of charge to government users, with access also available to authorized contractors and industry users through XSB. Support and account questions go through XSB/Exiger's admin mailbox for the tool rather than a government help desk.

How logisticians use it

DoD item managers, provisioning engineers, and catalogers use Pin Point to research an NSN or part number across many data sources at once rather than querying each system separately — checking manufacturer and distributor availability, technical characteristics, and known substitutes or cross-references, and flagging parts at risk of obsolescence or single-source supply. DLA has cited it as a supplement to (not a replacement for) authoritative federal item data in WebFLIS/FLIS.
