Training Center Petaluma (TraCen Petaluma) is a U.S. Coast Guard enlisted training installation located about nine miles west of Petaluma, California. Operated by the Coast Guard's Force Readiness Command (FORCECOM), it is the Coast Guard's largest training center on the West Coast and trains roughly one-third of the service's enlisted ratings, including the Storekeeper (SK) rating used throughout Coast Guard logistics.
What it is
TraCen Petaluma sits on an 800-plus-acre former U.S. Army radio-intercept site (the WWII-era "Two Rock Ranch" station) that the Coast Guard acquired in 1971. The center houses entry-level "A" Schools and advanced "C" Schools across multiple ratings — including Aviation Survival Technician, Electronics Technician, Culinary Specialist, Health Service Technician, Information System Technician, Operations Specialist, Storekeeper, and Yeoman — plus the Chief Petty Officer Academy, which also trains U.S. Air Force master sergeants.

The site originated as a classified U.S. Army radio intelligence station during World War II, camouflaged as a dairy farm. The Coast Guard took over the property in 1971 and renamed it Training Center Petaluma. The Storekeeper school was among the earliest programs established at the center after the Coast Guard took ownership.
