USA.gov is the U.S. government's official public web portal — a citizen-facing directory that helps people find federal (and some state and local) agencies, benefits, services, and information. It is operated by the General Services Administration's USAGov program and is a general government gateway, not a federal-logistics resource.

What it is

USA.gov organizes government information and services into topic areas — benefits, taxes, passports, housing, immigration, health coverage, jobs and unemployment, veterans' services, disaster assistance, small business support, and more — and links out to the responsible agency or program for each. A Spanish-language counterpart, USAGov en Español, mirrors the same mission.

Who operates it

USA.gov is run by USAGov, a program within GSA's Technology Transformation Services (part of the Federal Acquisition Service). USAGov traces its lineage to a Consumer Information Center effort dating to the early 1970s (with call-center roots in the 1960s); it now reaches people through the web, social media, email, phone, and live chat.

How logisticians use it

USA.gov has no direct federal-logistics function. A logistician might use it only as a general-purpose lookup — e.g., locating an agency's official website or a benefits/travel-related citizen service — not as a source for logistics data, codes, or systems. For federal and military logistics specifically, the .mil/.gov systems catalogued elsewhere in this directory are the authoritative references.
