DoD / Federal Condition Codes CC

"Federal Condition Codes" is the legacy name for a two-character code — a Supply Condition Code (a single alphabetic character) plus a Disposal Condition Code (a single numeric character) — that once traveled together on DoD disposal records. The Defense Logistics Agency formally retired the "Federal Condition Codes" name in 2020: the governing appendix is now titled "Supply Condition Codes," and the numeric half is legacy. What it is

The historical Federal Condition Code paired an alphabetic Supply Condition Code (SCC) — describing an item's serviceability on the supply record, such as A for issuable without qualification or H for condemned — with a numeric Disposal Condition Code (DCC) — describing the item's physical condition as inspected at the point of disposal, graded 1 (new/unused) through 9 (major repairs needed), plus X (salvage) and S (scrap). Read together, a code like A1 meant serviceable on the supply record and inspected as new at disposal; H7 meant condemned on the record but found economically repairable at the disposal site.

Approved DLMS Change (ADC) 1382, dated June 29, 2020, formally revised the title of DLM 4000.25 Volume 2, Appendix 2.5 from "Federal Condition Codes" to "Supply Condition Codes," reflecting that the Disposal Condition Code was no longer part of current DLMS supply transactions. The numeric DCC set is still published (in NAVSUP P-485 Volume II) for reading older records, but the field captured on a current disposal turn-in is the alphabetic Supply Condition Code alone.

The Supply Condition Code portion is governed by the Defense Logistics Agency's Defense Logistics Management Standards Office (DLMSO) under DLM 4000.25. How logisticians use it

Logisticians no longer need to decode a combined "Federal Condition Code" for current work — condition now travels as the Supply Condition Code alone on both the inventory record and the current disposal turn-in document (DD Form 1348-1A). The only place a logistician still needs the numeric Disposal Condition Code is when reading an older, legacy two-character record (for example, an archived disposal file that still shows something like A1 or H7) and needs to decode what the second character meant at the time.
